Snap-In Implant Dentures

What Are Snap-In Implant Dentures?

If you’re seeking a reliable solution for long-term tooth decay and missing teeth, snap-in implant dentures are an excellent choice. These dentures are typically provided for the lower jaw and can range from 2-4 implants to secure the dentures effectively. The more implants, the better the retention; for example, four implants provide more stability than two. They offer superior stability by securely snapping onto these strategically placed implants in your lower jaw. Enjoy the confidence of dentures that won’t unexpectedly shift while talking or eating, yet can be easily removed for cleaning.

Timeline

The snap-in implant denture process involves several stages, typically spanning a little over 6 months. After removing any remaining teeth, we place the implants, allowing them to heal for approximately 4-6 months. During this time, you can wear your dentures normally. Following the healing period, we perform an “uncovery” procedure, accessing the implants and placing healing abutments. After two weeks, when the gums have healed around the abutments, we attach the snapping feature to your denture, allowing you to easily snap it in and out. This complete process takes a little over 6 months. To ensure the long-term success of your implants and overall oral health, we recommend regular dental check-ups and prefer to see our patients every six months for cleanings, which play a crucial role in maintaining the health of the implant.

Snap-In Implant Dentures vs. Traditional Dentures

Experience the Difference with Snap-In Implant Dentures

While traditional dentures offer an affordable option for replacing missing or damaged teeth, they often lack stability and functional capabilities. Snap-in implant dentures provide enhanced stability and functionality. By securely attaching to implants placed in your lower jaw, they offer superior retention compared to traditional dentures.

Snap-In Implant Dentures – Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

How many implants are required for implant dentures?

For a lower implant denture, at least 2 implants are necessary, although typically, a minimum of 4 implants is required for optimal security and stability. It’s important to note that 4 implants generally offer a more secure fit than just 2. However, we do not offer snap-in dentures for the upper jaw due to the potential risk of implant complications. For the upper jaw, we recommend solutions like the all-on-4 technique, 3-on-6 technique, or traditional dentures.

Can food get under my implant dentures?

Although it is possible for food particles to get under your implant dentures, cleaning them is easy. Simply remove the dentures, clean them along with your gums and implants, and snap them back into place.

Timeline

With immediate dentures, you receive your new set of teeth on the same day as the removal of any remaining teeth, ensuring you never have to go without teeth. During the first 3 months of healing, we recommend coming in for a soft liner application, which provides cushioning as your gums heal. After 3-6 months, we perform a lab reline, perfectly refitting the inside of your denture to your newly healed gums for a secure fit. As a final step, once your gums and jaw have fully healed, we typically recommend creating an entirely new complete denture. This new denture will provide an improved fit, better functionality, and esthetics, contributing to the long-term success of your oral health.

Traditional Dentures – Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

What are immediate dentures?

Immediate dentures are placed immediately after the extraction of your natural teeth. These are typically provided for the upper jaw and not the lower jaw unless specifically requested by the patient, although most patients find they do not need this for the lower jaw. It’s important to note that this option is not generally recommended until after the gums and bone have healed. Once the gum and bone have been remodeled, which usually takes 3-6 months, a new complete denture will need to be made. This adjustment ensures the best possible fit to your gum and jawbone, leading to optimal aesthetics.

What is it like to get used to immediate dentures?

The adjustment period varies for each individual, as your mouth undergoes significant changes during the healing process. Typically, immediate dentures are only provided in the upper jaw, as most patients find that lower jaw dentures are unnecessary during this phase. Providing them for the lower jaw is not typically recommended until after the bone and gums have healed, as they tend to be non-functional and generally unnecessary. However, if specifically requested, they can be provided. Rest assured; we are here to support you throughout this transitional phase.
