Meet the Doctor

Dr. John Vredenburg III, DMD

Meet Dr. Vredenburg, a dentist who believes in the power of listening. He takes the time to truly understand each of his patients, recognizing that this personal touch is often missing in today’s healthcare landscape. By attentively listening to their dental stories, Dr. Vredenburg develops clear treatment plans that provide direction for patients who may feel lost when navigating their dental problems.

Following dental school, Dr. Vredenburg pursued advanced training at Western Surgical & Sedation, where he acquired the skills to safely and effectively sedate fearful or anxious patients during dental procedures. With hundreds of successful sedations under his belt, he maintains a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate.

As part of a 12-month advanced dental implant residency in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dr. Vredenburg completed numerous implant cases under the mentorship of a renowned dental implant surgeon. During this intensive private residency, he dedicated 60-80 hours per week to mastering All-on-4® dental implants, both performing the surgery and restoring patients with their new smiles. Dr Vredenburg is also excited to begin offering his patients 3-on-6™ Dental Implants at his practice and will be the exclusive 3-on-6™ provider in all of Southern Arizona.

Dr. Vredenburg’s commitment to continuous learning is evident through his active memberships in the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. He has pursued post-graduate training in various locations, including California, Arizona, Utah, Brazil, and New Jersey, all focused on implant dentistry, sedation dentistry, and full mouth reconstruction.

In 2022, Dr. Vredenburg acquired his dental practice and has since invested significant time and resources in acquiring the latest dental technology. This investment allows him to perform advanced and efficient treatments, all within one location, saving patients time and money. With his own in-house dental lab, Dr. Vredenburg can provide comprehensive dental treatment and is particularly passionate about offering All-on-4® and 3-on-6™ dental implants to patients in need of complete teeth replacement. He takes pride in his Tucson, Arizona office, recognized as a leading expert in dental implant treatment in Southern Arizona.

Renee A. Lawton, DMD

Renee A. Lawton, DMD is a second-generation dentist and proud to be a Tucson native. She is also a former Wildcat with a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences–Physiology from the University of Arizona. The pursuit of her dental education led her to the East Coast where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, graduating magna cum laude, and continued her training through a general practice residency program in Bethlehem, PA.

Upon returning to her hometown, Dr. Lawton practiced in a variety of settings with an emphasis on providing accessible dental care to the Tucson community. She is excited to join Dr. Vredenburg and the team at Smiles Only and add to the gentle and compassionate care the practice is known for providing. As a restorative dentist, Dr. Lawton will be focused on comprehensively addressing our patients’ dental needs—helping restore function, esthetics, and overall oral health through personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual.

Outside of dentistry, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, lifting weights, winter ski trips, or simply reading a great book with a cat on her lap.
